Friday evening Michael pulled the engine so it was ready for me to work on. I started to take it apart Saturday morning and everything went fine. It quickly became evident that the cam shaft and lifters needed to be replaced. Both the intake and exhaust lobes on the cam had been worn quite heavily on cylinder number six.

This week I spent cleaning the engine, painting it and checking it for wear and tear. Mechanically, everything seems to be fine and I only need to change the cam and lifters. That is until I decided to get a solid (mechanical) roller cam instead of a hydraulic flat tappet.

Some of the things I did this week:

As you can see in the first picture the intake manifold has some leftover aluminum from the casting and it should be grinded. The leftover aluminum is removed in the second picture and it was quite easy to remove.

The valve covers have been painted.	The engine block is ready for paint.

People have asked me how I create my posters. So I have decided to post the things that I find important when I create posters.

Get to Know Your Software
I use Photoshop myself, I am no Photoshop expert and I continue to learn new things about the program but I know my way around it.

Doing a Sketch or Not
Sometimes I do a quick sketch of what I have in mind for the poster. The sketches I do are not pretty but they serve their purpose. Commonly I just pick out the main picture for the poster, load it in Photoshop, add a headline, try out different fonts, add other things that may suit the poster, move things around, try different effects, etc. Then things usually start to happen, but if they do not I look for inspiration elsewhere; like in newspapers, magazines, nature, other people’s posters, movies, etc.

Doing a Sketch..	..or Not

Thinking You Are Done
Sometimes somewhere along the process you get new ideas, feeling that something is not quite right or your wife comes up with something!

So what should you do, should you pursue your new ideas or should you finish what you are doing? Well I usually ask myself the following questions to figure that out.

• How long will my new ideas take to do?
• Are my new ideas really better than what I am already doing?
• Does it require a total redesign, then perhaps I should save my new ideas for another poster?

Sometimes it is better to leave it as-is, sometimes it is better to follow you new ideas. It all depends..

Useful Tips

• Remember to use the web, you can find lots of useful stuff there for both inspiration and for Photoshop (if that is what you are using).
• View your work on different monitors and do test prints on a printer you are familiar with. That way you know that what you create looks right on more than just your own monitor.
• Get critique from others. I use my wife for this, she knows me inside out and she is honest and I can see right away when she is right about the comments she makes. (Which can be a bit annoying from time to time).

I could not wait to see how the Foose wheel looked on the Camaro.

After checking a lot of tires at tirerack.com, these made it to my final selection:

The engine in my Camaro engine is not breathing the way it should and is therefore a bit exhausted.

For some time I have felt that the engine was lacking power. And after doing a 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) test the car was a whole second slower that it used to be. Later a knocking sound could come and go untill the beginning of this week the knocking sound would stay when pushing it only a bit.

A quick check of the engine reviled that the exhaust valve on cylinder #6 is not opening as much as it should. So either the cam, the lifter or the push rod or all of them need to be changed.

Another thing I found looking through the engine:

The weights in the distributor have been torn by the pins that hold them and you could easily move them from side to side and up and down. Not something I have seen before.

I have decided that my Camaro needs bigger wheels. In my opinion 17″ front and 18″ rear look better than 15″ and they will also suit my project. A kind of street Trans Am racer with a modern look, is perhaps what describes my project best.

When I got my 15″ Centerline Warrior wheels I was also looking at the American Racing Torq Thrust II wheels. Now I am looking at them again but everybody has these it seems and I want something a bit different. If I was building a “traditional” Trans Am racer I would go with the Minilite copies, V48 from Vintage Wheel Works with the center painted black. I was also looking at the AR Torq Thrust M with the black center, but then I found these:

The Foose Nitrous Legend Gray

They look like the TT-IIs only better, in my opinion. They will also fit the future paint scheme on my Camaro and they come in the sizes I need. Looking like that  they are perfect for the Dark Horse.

Now I need to figure out which tires I should get..

My old battery was not performing well anymore so it was time to get a new one. I wanted to get one with high cranking power so the Optima RedTop battery seemed to be a good choice. And it was, the Optima sure does have a lot of cranking power!

I also installed four new ball joints, a drive shaft loop for safety, a few wires under the carpet and then I changed the oil, the oil filter and the spark plugs.

Installing these seats is quite straight forward. But if you like me have installed an eye bolt for your race harness you may run into a little trouble. Luckily I was able to solve the problem by just removing a washer.

At first I could not Install the seat in the driverside. A bolt on the seat was interfering with the race harness’ eye bolt. But removing a washer under the bolt on the seat made just enough room for me to install the seat.

I spotted it near Vasbygade in Copenhagen this morning, on my way to work. I wonder what is it going to be used for..

Sorry about the poor quality of my “spy shots”.

I have been looking at many different front seats for my Camaro for more than a year now. I mean, I really like the look of the original ‘67 red deluxe Camaro seats but they do not offer much, if any lateral support and then there is the lack of headrests, comfort and adjustability.

One seat that I have been looking at several times is the Procar Elite 1100. And after I have seen a pair of them in Henrik’s “new” 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1, and also tried sitting in one I am almost sure that these are the ones (in the color red) that I am going for.

In Henrik’s Mustang the seats fit the car so well that I, at first thought they were stock.

A 3″ exhaust kit in stainless steel from MagnaFlow and a set of Pypes collectors arrived Friday.

My old 2,5″ Flowmaster system needed a new muffler. At idle you could not have a conversation behind the car. Some like it this loud but it is a bit too loud for my taste.

I wanted to make my engine (and me) a bit happier so I bought a whole new 3″ exhaust system. This way my car is also ready if I ever choose to add a power adder to the engine.

When, my new exhaust system will be installed is another matter..

Finally, after modifying two Lokar throttle cables to bits & pieces and hours of test fitting I am now able to give my Camaro full gas.

I am of course looking forward to my next test drive and my next 1/8 mile test. 1/8 mile time should improve as my gas pedal now can move the throttle cable and -lever an additional 15-20 mm (0.59-0.79″).

Today at Avedøre Dækservice, I had my new Yokohama AVS ES100 225/50R15s installed on my front Centerline wheels. My new tires are not rubbing, they feel good on the road and they look fine. So it is as I had hoped for.

On most of the way back, my dad was behind the wheel of my Camaro for the first time. I hope he enjoyed the ride as much as I did.

Inspired by the light placed in the grill on the 2010 Camaro, I tried to put daylight driving light behind the grill on my Camaro to see what it looked like.

I do not think it is working. It looks a bit too tacky on an classic car. Perhaps it would have helped if the light was white or yellow and not blue. Anyway, it is not something that I am going to do (at least not now).

After months of waiting, Chevrolet has officially released details on the new Camaro: 2010 Camaro Bruchure with specifications.

The Coupé will be out in early 2009 and the convertible in the summer of 2010.

I got the brakes to work today. With the help from my son, Daniel and my father I bled the master cylinder and the brakes for the third time and this time it worked. The picture is taken after my first drive with the new brakes working.

I like the white lettering on BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires but they have no grip. If I floor it I get nowhere. I only get a lot of smoke which is cool if you are into burnouts. Do not get me wrong burnouts are cool but traction is better.

A year ago I bought a pair of Nitto NT555R Extreme Drag Radial tires to put on my Centerline wheels. And I look forward to test them when my brakes are working.

When my BFG Drag Radials on my Rally wheels wear out I will replace them with a pair of Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial tires, I have heard good things about them.

Yesterday I received a pair of Yokohama tires that I ordered for my front Centerline wheels. After I have installed new spindles, my front tires are rubbing. So I had to get some new tires with a lower profile than my BFGs 225/60R15. Therefore I went surfing for some 225/50R15 tires with good traction and a thread pattern some what similar to my Nitto tires. I found the Yokohama AVS ES100 tires and ordered them from Summit. I hope to have them mounted on my wheels next week.

I just finished installing my brake vacuum pump from SSBC and it is working fine. (My engine is only making 12-14 inches of vacuum and you need at least 18 for power brakes so I added a pump).

I bench bled my master cylinder (again) a few weeks ago, now I just need to bleed the brakes (again) and hopefully I will be able to brake again..

Shortly after I bought my Camaro I found out the stock front disc brakes were leaking. It was fixed, but afterwards they have never been that good. It has been getting worse and worse now the brakes have been needing attention for quite some time. It seems like the pressure to the front brakes is too low when breaking.

I was told that I should try to replace all the old stock brake valves with a combination valve, as the old valves might be worn-out and blocking the pressure to the front brakes.

So today my friend, Steen and I were going to install a new combination valve and a line lock. We both know what we are doing so it should quite easy.

Well, everything went wrong. Two threadings were stripped, some of the fittings were wrong, we had to make new hard lines, sludge came of of the wheel cylinders when bleeding them, we had leaks several places, etc.

So 10 hours later we had the combination valve in (not the line lock) and it was time to test the brakes. With the lack of luck we have had all day, I should have known. The brakes were now even worse than ever before!

I must admit that I knew it was a long shot just changing the valves but I wanted to give it a try since it was “so easy to do”. In case it would not work I have been checking brakes out from Wilwood, Baer Brakes, SSBC and CPP. And I think it is time to order a brake system from CPP.

When driving on the highway my hood flutters quite a bit. And having experienced an opening hood once while driving I decided to install a pair of hood pins.

1. Disconnect the battery. 2. Find a location on the radiator housing to install the hood pins. 3. Make sure that there are no wires under the radiator housing where you are drilling. 4. Start by drilling a small pilot hole.	1. Drill the hole bigger so that the hood pin fits through. 2. Clean the area around the bare metal with cellulose thinner. 3. Paint it with zinc primer to prevent rust. I am going to have the whole car painted so the zinc color does not bother me at this point.

1. Install the hood pins but do not tighten them yet. 2. Put grease on the tip of the pins to mark where to drill on the hood.	After the holes has been drilled not much is missing. But you need to be accurate when installing the scuff plates. I decided to make rubber gaskets to put under the scuff plates. I used one of the plates as a template.

Should it be with..	..or without straps?

To my surprise, my wife said “with”. So I am going with that.

I like the look and feel of the B&M StarShifter but it does not work with a 4-speed automatic transmission like the TH200-4R. So I had to replace it.

I chose to replace it with the B&M Megashifter. It looks very similar to the StarShifter and then you are able to manually shift through the gears when you feel like it. You cannot do that with a StarShifter.

Measuring where to drill the holes.

My TH200-4R has been installed and it just as nice as I had hoped for.

The CPT torque converter I installed has a stall speed of about 2,500 rpm where my old one on my TH350 from TCI is said to have a 2,400 stall speed. But they feel very different from each other. It feels more like the stall speed of the TCI converter is around 2,000 rpm. I guess the new stall speed is just something I have to get used to.

Now, why is it apparently so hard to for companies to produce bolt-on parts?

I did not want to modify my frame and/or or my old crossmember. So I purchased a pricey, high quality bolt-on crossmember from Bowtie Overdirves. It has been designed for 1967-69 Camaros and the TH200-4R gearbox so how can the mounting holes for the transmission be off by more than an inch?!

I hate all the extra work that these “bolt-on” parts give!

Finally, I am going to have my TH350 transmission replaced with my TH200-4R that I bought more than a year ago.

The specs on the TH200-4R are nice. It is lighter and can be just as strong as the TH700R4 and its 1st gear is not as deep. And then it has an overdrive gear which will help mileage and reduce engine wear.

My TH200-4R is from California Performance Transmission.

My 2nd 1/8 mile race.

This time I was running my BFGoodrich Drag Radial tires and yesterday I just finished installing the Hotchkis Total Vehicle System suspension set. So I was hoping to run 8.0s, but checking the engine before the first start I discovered that the engine was not taking full gas. When I floored it the speeder cable could be moved 1-1.5 cm (about 1/2″) before the throttle blades were fully open!

I could not fully fix the problem. So running 8.2s was not that bad.

This was my first 1/8 mile race ever and it was a ton of fun.

I was running on BFGoodrich radial tires so traction was a major issue. I was hoping to run 8.5 sec. times and with my fastest run of 8.70 @ 145,3 km/t (90.3 mph) I came close. One bad thing about this event was the wait between the runs.

I installed the spoiler yesterday and it went really well and was quite easy to do. However, I chose not to install the center brace at this point since it involved drilling a hole in subframe.

Unfortunately the aluminum alternator bracket that I ordered was not polished. So I decided to do that myself.

First I sanded the bracket parts, then wet sanded them, then I polished the parts first using Autosol and then Slipol.

Taking the old engine apart it is looking more and more like a piece of junk.. But it is actually in good shape! So I am going to use the block when I, years from now start building my first engine.

Right now I am more interesting in getting my car to run.. Starter, radiator, alternator, power steering pump, pulleys, etc. have been installed.

Installing the new engine did not take long but there is still much to do. I need to install the new radiator, stall converter, drive shaft, alternator, power steering pump, headers (which I have not ordered yet), etc. And then put it all together.

The engine arrived by truck today at 10 o’clock! It is looking good and it has even more horsepower than the promised 485.

Its peak power is 545 hp! Nice.

The weather is nice and hot and the sun is shining so that makes the wait even worse. I fell like I have been waiting for ever for the engine to arrive..

At least my old engine, the one in my car is running better than ever.

After cleaning the interior today I took some pictures.

Today I ordered a new engine!

After checking several engines during the last month or so I decided to go with the World Products Motown 415 cui. small block V8 with aluminum heads. It was, I think the most reasonable choice when comparing price, quality of parts and hp.

They are promising 485 hp and 505 lb-ft of torque, so I am quite exited about the order I just placed at Summit..

I forgot my camera! So the only pictures I took was with my cell phone which take very noisy pictures.

Luckily, Jon was also at the show and he took some really nice pictures. Here are some of them:

Yes, I know my trunk is boring to look at.

I have just returned from the shop with new rear tires, BFGoodrich 275/50R15. Perhaps you cannot see it but the blue protection layer on the white lettering is still there. Luckily it is easy to get off using just soap and water.

After looking at this picture some times. I decided that I need the chrome rocker panel moldings for my car. It is too dark down there.

The American car club that I am a member of, California Dreamers were present at this year’s Gladsaxe Kulturfest with a selected bunch of cars. I managed to take the pictures before the place was too crowded with people standing in front of the cars..

When I bought the car it came with a new seat cover for the driver’s seat. So waiting for the year to end I decided to pass some time changing the cover.

It was actually easier than I thought it would be. And it did not take very long.

I have fixed the rust in the cowl, body-filled and painted it. After that I installed the new windshield and then the chrome.

So far I have been expericeing several different engine troubles and also other troubles like leaking front disc brakes, etc. Therefore I have not been on trips much longer than 40 km (25 miles). But now it was time to go on a somewhat longer trip.

This is the route. I went from Ballerup to Roskilde – Jægerspris – Frederikssund and back to Ballerup again. The pictures are taken in or nearby Frederikssund. “.1″ is where the pictures in the woods were taken and “.2″ markes the place where the pictures by the sea were taken. “X” is where the mirror in my right side-mirror were trashed agenst a traffic cone where I made room for an amublance.. Other than that the car did not complain and it was a really nice cruise.

A week or so before this trip I had the rear window out, fixed the rust around the window and on the drip rail. Then body-filled the bare metal, painted it, polished it and then installed the chrome.

I was only at the meet for a few hours, I am afraid and did not take that many pictures. I parked my Camaro in the parking lot..

During the winter I painted the moldings around the grille and headlights flat black.

I got it today! I decided right away that I wanted to buy it. But unfortunately I had to wait for it to be ready for the roads..

But today the phone rang. Michael called from the Camaro telling me that it had passed inspection! He then asked me when I would like to pick it up. Now! I said and left work to go to the bank.

Armed with the money I picked up the Camaro and drove straight to the “Motor Office” to pick up my license plates. I drove all day long only stopping for gas and to show it to my family and friends. Wow! What a day!

My brother-in-law, Henrik Nesager knows someone who is selling a ‘67 Camaro. And we went out to have a look at it today. I was quite excited as the ‘67 and ‘68 Camaro is the car of my dreams. And after seeing it.. Yes I gotta have it!

It is a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS-350 with a v8 350 cui from a 1973 Camaro and a TH-350 3-speed automatic. Originally it had a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission.

No, it is not me in the picture. It is Michael Bjarlert, the seller who is now a friend of mine.

Okay, I am cheating a bit..

I did not actually start this blog the 13th of June 2001. I started it on the 17th of December 2007. So everything written up until this date is based on memory, notes, photos and my old Camaro web site.
